Joost Schanstra received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 1996. From 1996 to 1999 he worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the field of Nephrology and was re-cruited as a principal investigator at INSERM, Toulouse, in 1999. Since 2008, Joost Schanstra is a Director of research at the Renal Fibrosis Lab, INSERM U1297.

Joost Schanstra a obtenu son doctorat en biochimie à l'Université de Groningue, aux Pays-Bas, en 1996. De 1996 à 1999, il a travaillé comme chercheur post-doctoral dans le domaine de la néphrologie et a été recruté comme chercheur principal à l'INSERM, Toulouse, en 1999. Depuis 2008, Joost Schanstra est directeur de recherche au laboratoire de fibrose rénale, INSERM U1297.
