Common mouse models of chronic kidney disease are not associated with cachexia.

Lair et al. here demonstrate that the commonly used 5/6 nephrectomy (Nx) and adenine-induced nephropathy mouse models do not faithfully recapitulate the pathophysiology of CKD-related cachexia. Thus that the time-course of kidney failure and weight loss are unrelated in these common CKD models.
